Texans Looking Good

I took Skyler to see the Texans practice Wednesday morning.

When we arrived, the team was doing 1st and 10 drills from the 40 yard line, and then progressed to a 1st and 10 goal line stand where the offense had to dig out and get a 1st down past the 10 yard line. When the first string offense and defense took the field for their goal line drills, the defense did not let them get through. Second string gained 4 yards on a short pass from Lienhart to Vickers, our new fullback, but then did not make any more progress.

The one thing I took away from it was that the defense had vastly improved from the ‘Ole’ defense we had last year, or as I referred to it, the swiss cheese secondary. Kareem Jackson looked to have improved, and the eight corners on the field seemed to be competing intensely for the 4-5 corners positions they will take into the regular season.

After watching some drills, Skyler got bored so we moved on to the walkway outside the bleachers. Several sponsors were there toting their merchandise and products. None of them interested me in the slightest. Instead, I picked up my 3 year old daughter dresses in all pink with a Texans t-shirt, and we wound up getting photographed by several people who were taking photos for the sponsors. So far I have found a photo at Mix 96.5 and Sports Radio 610.

I know every season we get excited about what the Texans are going to do, and every season they turn out to be merely mediocre, but there was something different that I saw today. Last year, our offense scored, but our secondary could not prevent scoring. This year, if our offense can continue scoring and our defense can force more 4th and yards, then this will be a playoff season, and the Houston Texans will overcome to Colts to be the division leaders.

Let’s Go Texans!
